Mulled White Wine Citrus Spice (Print-Friendly Format)

White wine simmered with citrus, honey, and warming spices for a festive, aromatic beverage.

# Ingredients You’ll Need:

→ Fresh Produce

01 - 1 apple, sliced into rounds
02 - 1 orange, sliced into rounds
03 - 0.5 lemon, sliced into rounds (optional, adjust for milder citrus flavor)
04 - 1 orange, juiced

→ Spices

05 - 2 cinnamon sticks
06 - 6 whole cloves
07 - 3 cardamom pods
08 - 2 star anise

→ Liquids and Sweeteners

09 - 750 ml dry white wine (preferably unoaked and slightly fruity)
10 - 60 ml rum
11 - 60 ml honey or maple syrup

# How to Make It:

01 - Place all sliced fruit, spices, white wine, rum, honey or maple syrup, and orange juice into a medium, non-reactive saucepan.
02 - Set saucepan over medium-low heat and bring mixture to a gentle simmer. Do not allow to boil to preserve the alcohol content.
03 - Maintain a gentle simmer for 15–30 minutes, adjusting the duration based on preferred spice intensity. Keep warm on low heat for up to 1 hour if preparing in advance, but do not simmer excessively to avoid bitterness.
04 - Taste and modify the sweetness with additional honey or maple syrup as needed.
05 - Pour warm mulled wine into heat-resistant mugs or glasses. Garnish with extra fruit slices and whole spices for presentation if desired.

# Extra Tips:

01 - Use an unoaked, slightly fruity white wine for best results; oaked Chardonnay can impart bitterness when heated.
02 - Introduce lemon and other citrus slices toward the end of simmering to prevent excessive bitterness.
03 - Do not simmer for extended periods. White wine is delicate and can develop harsh flavors if overcooked.
04 - Pairs excellently with festive desserts or holiday pastries.
