In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Add diced onion and cook until softened. Season with salt, black pepper, and optional spices such as garlic powder or paprika. Drain excess fat.

Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream, mixing well with the beef mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes until heated through.

Grease a casserole dish lightly. Evenly spread the beef mixture across the bottom.

Sprinkle 100 g shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.

Evenly arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.

Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden and crisp.

Remove from oven and sprinkle remaining 100 g cheddar cheese on top. Return to oven and bake an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
