Best Green Bean Casserole (Print-Friendly Format)

Fresh green beans in a creamy sauce with crispy onions—ideal for holiday gatherings or comfort meals.

# Ingredients You’ll Need:

→ Vegetables

01 - 680 grams fresh green beans, rinsed, trimmed, and halved

→ Sauce

02 - 28 grams unsalted butter
03 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
04 - 16 grams all-purpose flour
05 - 180 millilitres chicken broth
06 - 300 millilitres half-and-half or whole milk
07 - 3 grams fine salt
08 - 3 grams ground black pepper

→ Topping

09 - 60 grams French's crispy fried onions

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat the oven to 190°C. Lightly grease a 33x23-centimetre baking dish with cooking spray.
02 - In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook green beans for 5 to 7 minutes until just tender. Drain thoroughly and arrange evenly in the prepared baking dish.
03 - In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly. Whisk in the flour until a smooth paste forms, cooking for 1 minute. Gradually add chicken broth, stirring continuously for 3 minutes until well incorporated.
04 - Reduce heat to low. Slowly pour in the half-and-half or whole milk, stirring constantly. Continue to cook until the sauce thickens, around 10 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
05 - Evenly pour the creamy sauce over the green beans in the baking dish. Sprinkle crispy fried onions evenly across the top.
06 - Place on the centre rack of the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. In the final 10 minutes, loosely cover with aluminium foil to prevent onions from burning.
07 - Remove from oven and allow the casserole to rest for 5 minutes prior to serving.

# Extra Tips:

01 - For optimal texture, avoid overcooking green beans to maintain their vibrant colour and slight crispness.
